The Vancouver Sun reported on its front page Monday about new information presented at a special roundtable co-hosted by the BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) and Alberta Continuing Care Association (ACCA) regarding H1N1 lessons learned and post-pandemic planning. The article was also published by media outlets across Canada.
The event in Edmonton included more than 40 representatives of front line health care workers and emergency responders from Alberta and BC - including many seniors care providers. BC participants included affiliates of WorkSafe BC, Good Samaritan Society, Canadian Standards Association, BC Care Providers Association, BC Professional Fire Fighters, Revera and Park Place Seniors Living.
The agenda included:
- Summary of Canadian Standards Association submission to special Senate Committee on pandemic response by Dr. Allan Holmes
- Recap of Senate Committee process and mandate by Hill and Knowlton's Ron Soreanu from Toronto
- Presentation of RiskAnalytica research by Dr. David Stiff - including breakdown of specific findings for Alberta and BC
- Roundtable discussion: What worked and what didn't? What needs to be done to prepare for more serious pandemics?
The full copy of the event program and meeting summary will be posted here within days. Full reviews of Canada's pandemic response are expected in the coming weeks from the Canada Public Health Agency and special Senate Committee.
The information presented by RiskAnalytica at the BCCPA/ACCA roundtable comes on the heels of an extensive report released last week the Canadian Institute of Health Information.
