A significant moment for the sector, the Canadian Association for Long Term Care (CALTC) encourages Canadians to express their gratitude to their local health care professionals who have dedicated their careers to supporting long-term care residents.
June 13, 2024 (Ottawa) – The Canadian Association for Long Term Care (CALTC) is thrilled to recognize today as the inaugural National Long-Term Care Day in Canada. The significance of this day marks a collective moment of recognition of the dedication of individuals within the long-term care community, including volunteers, staff and families who provide essential support and care to thousands of people living in long-term care homes throughout Canada. It is estimated Canada will require 454,000 long-term care beds by 2035 and that 50% of people over the age of 65 living in Canada will require some kind of long-term care in their lifetime.1
National Long-Term Care Day offers a chance to express gratitude and appreciation, emphasizing the role the long-term care community plays in enriching the lives of many. With support from MPs in the House of Commons today, in particular by MP Marie-France Lalonde, CALTC aims to foster greater awareness and appreciation for the crucial work of caregivers, while also advocating for the continued improvement and advancement of long- term care services across the country.
